How to choose charging piles?

With the popularity of new energy vehicles, as a special “must-have”, the quality and convenience of charging pile products are directly related to the user experience of car owners.

There are many different brands and types of charging pile products on the market. The different charging forms can be divided into two categories: slow-charging AC charging piles and fast-charging DC charging piles.

AC charging piles are divided into wall-mounted and floor-standing types. They have the advantages of a small footprint and easy installation and are very suitable for use as private charging piles at home.

For new car owners and prospective car owners, how to choose high-quality AC charging piles? How to apply for installation? EV Vision takes you to learn more in detail.

220 V single-phase AC charging pile VS 380 V three-phase AC charging pile

At present, most car owners install 220 V single-phase AC charging piles provided by car companies at home. The so-called single-phase AC charging pile refers to the use of a single-phase full-bridge circuit to rectify AC into DC.

Now there are also ways to directly use a switch circuit to convert AC into DC, and the charging voltage can be automatically adjusted to achieve the purpose of strong charging and floating charging.

The advantages of this type of charging pile are low pile cost and easy installation.

Generally, parking lots can be transformed; they can use the low-peak electricity of the power grid at night for charging, with low charging cost, small charging current, and relatively stable voltage, and can ensure the safety of the power battery and extend the service life.

However, this type of charging pile also has its shortcomings, that is, the overall charging time is too long, which makes it difficult to meet the needs of emergency charging and long cruising range of vehicles, and the civilian 220V AC power adopts a tiered electricity price.

If you charge your electric car frequently, the electricity price at home may become the third-tier electricity price within 2-3 months. After all, the power consumption of electric vehicles is much greater than that of household appliances, and charging once may consume at least ten degrees of electricity.

But even if the third-tier electricity price is used, some people have calculated that it is still more economical than the cost of refueling a fuel car, but it only drags down other electricity consumption at home to become high-priced electricity.

So, under the premise that faster DC charging piles cannot be installed at home, how can we increase the charging speed and save more money? Here comes the knowledge point!

The emergence of three-phase 380 V AC charging piles is the best answer to this charging problem.

Three-phase AC refers to electricity with equal voltage values of the three phases and a phase difference of 120 degrees in the spatial angle.

In the power supply line, there are generally three-phase three-wire, three-phase four-wire, three-phase five-wire, and other wiring methods.

The difference is that the three-phase three-wire system only introduces three-phase AC, while the three-phase four-wire system introduces the neutral line in the system, that is, the zero line.

The three-phase five-wire system has improved the safety of electricity use in recent years. In addition to introducing the three-phase line and the zero line, the grounding line in the system is also introduced.

In daily use, most of them are three-phase four-wire systems. The 220V used in households is the voltage between any one of the three phases and the system neutral line. Since the civilian power system mostly grounds the neutral line (neutral line), the neutral line and the earth are at the same potential.

The earth is usually regarded as zero potential, so the neutral line is often called the “neutral line”. If the neutral line is well connected to the grounding point, the voltage in the “neutral line” is “zero”, so people often call the charged phase line “live line”.

As a three-phase 380V AC charging pile, compared with the common 220V single-phase charging pile, it has achieved a large-scale improvement in charging power. Not only can you enjoy the 380V fast charging speed, but there is no tiered electricity price for household charging piles, which is more than 0.5 yuan per kilowatt-hour, so it is very affordable.

Therefore, the 380 V three-phase AC charging pile is the most economical and cost-effective choice for our electric car owners.
